Hotei or Buddha of Happiness. China, Rose Family, mid-20th century. Enamelled porcelain. Measurements: 26 x 19,5 x 11 cm. Enamelled porcelain sculpture representing a smiling Buddha, also called Hotei or Buddha of happiness. Several children climb on his naked belly and tickle him all over his body. Popularly known as the "Fat Buddha", his mythological origin dates back to the time of the Chinese Liang Dynasty. He is believed to have been a Buddhist monk who, due to his benevolent nature, came to be regarded as an incarnation of the bodhisattva Maitreya. The polychromy is part of the Rose Family style, based on the introduction of new glazes, the most famous of which is pink, after which the style is named. Other new colours were also added, such as opaque yellow, white and the now independent black, since until then, in order to fix the black glaze, it had to be covered with a glaze of another colour, usually translucent green.

CHINA 19th century Set of three round and oval ink paintings on silk. One depicts a mountain landscape animated by pavilions. Signed Ho Weipu (1844-1925). The second depicts a snow-covered mountain landscape. Signed Deng tao. The third featuring a lakeside landscape, with a possibly apocryphal signature Dai Xi (1801-1860). Framed under glass, some in full size. D. 26 - 25 and 24.5 x 26.5 cm (Some foxing and bending).

Nirvana: a band-signed 'Nevermind' CD insert, with the autographs in black ink of Kurt Cobain (1967-1994), Dave Grohl (b.1969) and Krist Novoselic (b.1965), with 'additions' made to the swimming baby's face, giving him hair and a beard (probably in Cobain's hand, given the ink colour, which matches his signature). Also included is a ticket stub from a 1991 Nirvana show, held on October 20th at 'The Vatican, Washington'. CD or outer case not present. From the estate of the late Franz-Peter Bach, a German autograph collector of many years. He began collecting in the 1980s, from following music tours in Germany, as well as attending swap meets in Hanover, where as well as exchanging autographs, he was given addresses of celebrities, who he would then write to directly for signatures. His collection was meticulously collated, mostly in albums, and added to over many years. Authenticated prior to the sale by Adam Andrusier. Collated in a presentation album by Mr Bach, with tipped in photograph on opposing page. Following the sale, the autograph(s) will be removed and paired with the photograph, ready for collection / shipping.
