FANG, Guinea. Dense, heavy hardwood, skin, bone. Important sculpture of a drummer. The figure stands hieratically, playing a "Mbe" membrane drum, staring at the dancers. He wears an amulet necklace around his neck and his sound eyes are inlaid with pieces of bone. 1st half of the 20th century. Height: 66 cm. Small accidents and chips, restorations. -Belgian private collection. -Collector's label (Laurence Goldman, 1985, Christie's).
