Modern Photography Ostarhild, Jurgen Franz Beckenbauer. 1978/ 2024. Digital b/w Finae Art Print from 2024 after a photograph from 1978 on light wove cardboard. 37.8 x 25.4 cm (42 x 29.5 cm). Signed, dated and titled verso. - Overall very good and exceptionally fine. Magnificent, very high-contrast and deep black print. He moved to New York in the summer of 1979 and founded his own studio in Stuttgart in 1982. - In this intense chest portrait, Ostarhild shows Franz Beckenbauer freed from soccer in 1978. In a private, intimate atmosphere, we see the footballer drinking a Vitamalz. At the time the portrait was taken, Franz Beckenbauer had become European champion as a player and captain in 1972 and world champion in 1974 and was one of the most talented and sought-after players in international soccer. One year before our portrait was created, in 1977, he ended his active career in the national team. In 1978, the former player, whom Ostarhild shows in a very purist manner, was still to enjoy an extremely successful career as coach of the German national soccer team, which would culminate in 1990 with the 3rd German World Cup title. Even after his active career as a player and coach, Beckenbauer remained extremely popular and loved as a person - Ostarhild shows him just as approachable in our work, standing in the middle of life.
