American Modernism Conceptual Art Va, Barry Le Shattered on edges. 1999. Pencil on handmade, slightly textured wove paper. 20 x 28.5 cm. Signed, dated and titled. Mounted in spots on support, matted and framed under glass. - Very fine, barely noticeable foxing in places, also verso. There with studio traces. Overall very good. Clear-lined drawing with reference to Le Va's action art. Provenance: - Private collection, Northern Germany - Frank Preuss Collection, Hamburg. - Nolan/ Eckman Gallery, New York. - In 1966 Barry Le Va began to explore the shattering of glass panes as an artistic practice, creating the series "Shatter-Pieces". For this, he worked with panes of glass, which he smashed with a sledgehammer. The scattering and distribution of the broken glass and the site-specific action in situ are of decisive importance here - Le Va gave precise plans and instructions on the one hand and made drawings on the other. In our work, he refers to the spatial and material-specific situation at hand. It shows a top view of a view characterized by glass panes, which mark the impact points in the middle with breaks and shards. Pencil on wove paper. Signed, dated and titled. Spot-mounted to underlying mat and matted, framed under glass. - Very fine, barely noticeable foxing in places, also on the verso. There with studio traces. No retouches recognizable under UV. Good overall. High-contrast drawing with reference to Le Va's action art. - Provenance: - Private collection, Northern Germany - Frank Preuss Collection, Hamburg. - Gallery Nolan/ Eckman, New York. - In 1966, Barry Le Va began to explore the shattering of glass panes as an artistic practice, creating the "Shatter Pieces" series.
