Leipzig, Cranach Presse for Insel Verlag, 1926. On various papers: Maillol Kessler laid paper and Old China. Sheet dimensions 33 x 25 cm. - Partly with slight creases in margins and occasional pale brown stains. Overall beautifully preserved with excellent impressions of the woodcuts. Cf. for the complete work: The Artist and the Book 172. Sarkowski 1813. - Contains 21 (of 43) woodcuts in the text as well as 24 (of 43) woodcuts in red on old China of the extra suite. The loose text sheets uncut. With an original envelope with the imprint: "Sonderdruck der Holzschnitte auf Altchina für die Luxusexemplare jeder Druck signiert von Aristide Maillol", but no signed prints present here. The title font, decorative initials and capitals are by Eric Gill, printed under the direction of Harry Graf Kessler on Maillol Kessler laid paper (with the watermark MK), for the production of which a special mill was set up in Monval.
