MARIANO SALVADOR MAELLA (Valencia, 1739 - Madrid, 1819)Purísima

Oil on canvas. 61,5 x 35,5 cm. PROVENANCE: Former collection of the Marquesa Viuda del Cadimo. EXHIBITIONS: Jaén, 1876 as "Original sketch of Maella. La Purísima" (catalog, no. 141, p. 9). It is a copy made by Maella of the Inmaculada de Aranjuez by Murillo, which is kept in the Prado Museum. Maella could have made this copy in 1769, when he was in Aranjuez painting the Convent of San Pascual, or in 1778, working in the Oratory of the Palace of the Royal Site, since Murillo's Inmaculada was in the Chapel of San Antonio de Aranjuez until 1818.
