PSEUDO ROESTRATEN (active between 1675 and 1725) Still life with Nautilus, cup, teapot, books, jewelry on a table with Turkish carpet Oil on canvas, 89X109 cm Provenance: Lord Ashcombe London, Sotheby's, July 16, 1980, lot 231 (as Pieter Gerritsz van Roestraten) Italy, private collection Bibliography: RKD: https://rkd.nl/imageslite/589358 (as Pseudo Roestraten) We owe the attribution to Fred G. Meijer of the Pseudo Roestraten, whose style finds similarities with the works of Pieter Gerritsz van Roestraten (Haarlem, 1630 ; London, 1700). The known compositions exhibit a number of recurring elements such as documents, ceramics and precious objects arranged on tables covered with fine oriental carpets. Reference bibliography: F. G.
