DUBOIS-AYMÉ, Jean-Marie [Translation of Dubois-Aymé's Persian and Egyptian stamp] [ca. 1830-1840] "AMON SEIGNEUR DU CIEL" TRANSLATION OF DUBOIS-AYMÉ'S STAMP BY FÉLIX DE SAULCY 2 pp. in-12 (120 x 92 mm) folded and pin-bound, reused paper, brown ink TRANSCRIPTION: "Calice du jardin des roses // bouton de la roseraie du paradis ayecha// Gandjaï - gulzari - djanna - ayecha // ayecha rosebud of the roses of paradise. Gulzari means a place planted with roses and is translated here by a French word roseraie by imitation of chataîgneraie for a place planted with chestnut trees. Engraved jasper, passage from the Koran translated as above by M. Renard, member of the Institut, professor of oriental language [Suite de hiéroglyphes] Amon Seigneur du Ciel, Soleil bon frais et juste. Translation of the small stone engraved on both sides, which I had mounted as a seal and which I wear attached to my watch. It was found in Dendera by Édouard de Villiers, who gave it to me the same day. The translation opposite is by M. de Saulcy, of the Institut."
