The lid is adorned with a gouache miniature depicting a festive village scene in the foreground: peasants dancing at the feet of a musician or having lunch around a table, and a house and the top of a church in the background. In the box, old handwritten inscription in ink on paper: "Miniature by Louis van Blarenberghe".
