1970 MASERATI GHIBLI 4.9 SS

French registration title ERRATUM: please note that the technical inspection is being carried out for major defects (worn discs and service brake imbalance) The Maserati Ghibli, whose sublime shape was to consecrate the talent of the young Giorgetto Giugiaro, then at Ghia, remains one of the masterpieces of Italian bodywork; there is no doubt that he signed here one of the most beautiful designs of his career! This racy model, presented at the 1966 Turin Motor Show, represented the culmination of Maserati’s V8 front-engined cars and would enable the brand to regain a dominant position in the Grand Touring car market, ahead of its direct competitor, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4-Daytona This 1974 Maserati Ghibli SS chassis was one of 1,149 coupés built during its six-year production run, of which around 425 were powered by the 4.9-litre twin-shaft V8 engine, with the added bonus of power steering. Derived from the powerful engine of the 450 S racing car, it developed a whopping 335 hp and, above all, more torque (480 Nm at 4,000 rpm) Our example was delivered new to Palermo in Sicily in July 1970; according to the information in our possession, it was then sent to Germany before arriving in the south of France; it was in 2014 that the bodywork was completely restored, as well as a large part of the mechanics (photo file of the restoration attached). It should be noted that the current owner acquired this vehicle in 2015 and that its engine had previously been replaced by a 4.7-litre engine in the correct series of the type Superb in its gunmetal grey livery, the bodywork is a feast for the eyes; the cabin is not to be outdone, with a havana leather interior with matching carpets giving the whole an exceptional refinement, all the chrome is in perfect condition, just as the finesse of the alignments is a reflection of the quality of the whole Mechanically, the car starts at the first turn of the key, idles smoothly, accelerates quickly and the oil pressure is good; having driven it little since 2017, we would still recommend that its future owner carry out a routine service before embarking on a long journey at the wheel
