WELLINGTON DUKE OF: (1769-1852) Anglo-Irish Field Marshal, the Victor of Waterloo, 1815. British Prime Minister 1828-30, 1834. A.L.S., with his initial W, one page, 8vo, Walmer Castle, 30 th September 1844, to Lady Poulett. Wellington explains that he did not answer Poulett’s letter as he knew she would not be in London until now, adding that he has been relieved from the necessity of attending a christening ‘as the Queen Dowager is too ill to attend’, although remarking that he must go to town to be in attendance with the King of the French, also referring to his Lieutenantry of Hampshire and concluding that he will be certain of seeing Lady Poulett when he is in London. With blank integral leaf (minor traces of former mounting to the upper edge of the verso). VG Charlotte Frances Poulett (1797-1877) Wife of John Poulett, 5th Earl Poulett (1783-1864) Colonel of the 1st (East) Somersetshire Militia. Louis Philippe I (1773-1850) King of the French 1830-48, made a Knight of the Garter on 11th October 1844 in the month following the present letter.
