DE GAULLE CHARLES: (1890-1970) French General who led Free France against Nazi Germany in World War II, later serving as Prime Minister of France 1958-59 and as President of France 1959-69. A good A.L.S., ` C. de Gaulle´, two pages, 8vo, n.p., [Paris], 9th September 1950, on his personal printed stationery, to the Belgian Ambassador in Paris, Raymond Brugere, in French. The letter bears to the upper left corner his printed name "Le Général de Gaulle". De Gaulle confirms the meeting requested and insidts on the conditions agreed, stating ` Mon cher Ambassadeur, Entendu pour le 30 septembre. Je recevrai la délégation belge à 15 heures. Mais je compte absolument sur mes visiteurs pour qu’il n’y ait aucune publicité d’aucune sorte..´ ("Translation: " My dear Ambassador, Agreed for the 30th September. I will receive and attend the Belgian delegation at 15h. But I absolutely count on my visitors in order that there will be no publicity of any kind...") Further De Gaulle invites his correspondent and friend fo r lunch, saying `Vous nous feriez grand plaisir à ma femme et à moi au cas où vous viendriez déjeuner avant la réception...´ (Translation: " You would do to my wife and to me a great pleasure if you come for lunch before the reception...")
