GEORGE III: (1738-1820) King of Great Britain and Ireland 1760-1820. A.L., unsigned, one page, 4to, Richmond, 1 st April 1765, to [Welbore] Ellis. The King writes, in full, 'I think the affair of exchanging commissions extrem'ly easy, those who have apply'd early enough for their successors to be ready to join the Regiments before embarkation are entitl'd to it if men of service & of character; but the young inexperienced officers who want to retire from no other motive than aversion to service, ought to be put on Half pay without any valuable consideration'. With blank integral leaf. Some ink blotting only very slightly affects a few words of text. VG Welbore Ellis (1713-1802) 1st Baron Mendip. British politician who served as Secretary at War 1762-65 and as Secretary of State for the Colonies in 1782.
