The Empress states that the letter she received from her correspondent at the time of the festivities of the Nativity of Our Lord had given her great satisfaction, continuing ´Je vous remercie des sentiments que vous et temoignez a mon egard. Je vous remercie egalement de joindre vos prieres aux miennes pour le bonheur de la France, et j´espere que le Ciel daignera les exaucer. Je profite avec plaisir de cette occasion pour vous renouveler les assurances de ma parfaite estime et de ma constante affection´ (Translation: ´I thank you for the feelings you have shown towards me. I also thank you for joining your prayers to mine for the happiness of France, and I hope that Heaven will deign to answer them. I am pleased to take this opportunity to renew to you the assurances of my perfect esteem and my constant affection´). Countersigned at the foot. VG
