HARDY THOMAS MASTERMAN: (1769-1839) English Vice-Admiral who served as flag captain to Admiral Lord Nelson, and commanded HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in October 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars. As he lay dying, Nelson directed his famous remark, 'Kiss me, Hardy', to Hardy. Signed Free Front envelope panel, addressed in Hardy´s hand to his sister, Miss Augusta Hardy, at Portesham, Dorchester, Dorset, and dated at London, 10th August 1833. Signed by Hardy to the lower left corner and countersigned by Maurice Berkeley (1788-1867) 1st Baron FitzHardinge, English Admiral. Very slightly irregularly trimmed to the lower edge, otherwise VG
