BERTHIER BROTHERS: A good set of three documents signed by each of the Berthier brothers, including Alexandre Berthier (1753-1815) French Marshal of Napoleon and Minister of war. L.S., Alexandre, one page, folio, Dresden, 12th June 1813, to his aide-de-camp General Bailly de Monthion, in French. Berthier refers to the Emperor´s order, appointing General Petit as Commander of the infantry warehouses in Dresden; Cesar Berthier (1765-1819) French General, Governor of Piedmont and Chief of the House of Pope Pius VII when prisoner in Savonia. A.L.S., one page, folio, Modena, 27th April 1801. Berthier states in part `..I need a carriage to transport my personal belongings to Florence where I have been ordered to move..´ With a red ink stamp; and Victor Leopold Berthier (1770-1807) French General who died at the early age of 36 as a result of putrid fevers catched at the war front. A good military D.S., three pages, folio, Weissemburg Headquarters, 7th October 1805, in French. The document being the military orders received from Marshal Bernadotte. G, 3
