BEAUHARNAIS ALEXANDRE DE: (1760-1794) French Politician and General of the French Revolution. First husband of Joséphine Tascher de La Pagerie, who later married Napoleon Bonaparte and became French Empress. Alexandre de Beauharnais was executed by guillotine during the Reign of Terror at the early age of 34. A good multiple letter signed, L.S., ` Le Vic[om] te de Beauharnais´, one page, folio, Paris, 9th December 1789, in French. The document is an extract of the minutes of the National Assembly of the 2nd December 1789, reporting on a decree aproved referring to Communal or Municipal appointments and to their rights to continue exercising their rights until new elections. Signed at the base by Beauharnais in his capacity as Secretary of the National Assembly, alongside an attractive and in very fine condition red wax seal. Beauharnais would be appointed President of the constituent National Assembly two years later. With three additional countersignatures. Paper with a large and attractive Propatria watermark.
