ARAFAT YASSER: (1929-2004) Palestinian political leader who served as Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation 1969-2004 and as President of the Palestinian National Authority 1994-2004. Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1994. T.L.S., Y. Arafat, one page, 4to, n.p., 19th April 1978, to Klaus J. Birkner, on the printed stationery of the President´s Office, Executive Committee, Palestine Liberation Organization. Arafat acknowledges receipt of his correspondent´s letter and continues to remark ´We appreciate your support of our just struggle to liberate our country Palestine and create a unitary democratic non secterian (sic) state after liberation. Our struggle is long, but we shall be victorious´, further sending a signed photograph, information material, the flag of Palestine and the emblem of Fatah (none of the enclosures are present).
