[TAGORE RABINDRANATH]: (1861-1941) Bengali poet, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1913. An original vintage unsigned 4 x 6 press photograph, the image depicting Tagore seated in a full-length pose and holding a catalogue in one hand. Tagore is flanked either side by Anna, Comtesse de Noailles, and her husband Mathieu Fernand Frédéric Pascal de Noailles, who both stand in full-length poses. Hanging on the wall in the background is one of Tagore´s paintings, being displayed as part of an exhibition of his artworks held in a Paris art gallery in May 1930. With a French text printed caption to the verso, as well as the wet stamp of Georges Devred of Agence Rol, Paris. Very slightly neatly trimmed to the edges, otherwise VG Tagore had left Bengal in early 1930 for an almost year-long tour of Europe and the United States during which time he held exhibitions of his paintings in Paris and London. Anna de Noailles (1876-1933) French writer and poet of Romanian and Greek descent, and a socialist feminist. Anna de Noailles married Mathieu Fernand Frédéric Pascal de Noailles (1873–1942) in 1897 and the couple soon became the toast of Parisian high society. The Rol Agency was a photographic reporting agency that existed between 1904 and 1937 and which employed photographer Georges Devred (1887-1932) from 1911, Devred serving as director of the agency from 1923-32.
