HEREDIA JOSE-MARIA DE: (1842-1905) Cuban-born French poet, a member of the Parnassianism movement. Autograph poem signed, M. de Heredia, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d., in French. The quatrain is entitled Malaguena at the head of the page and reads, ´Carmen m’a donné la rose/ Qui sur son cœur s’effeuillait/ Mais l’œillet me vient de Rose/ Et je préfère l’œillet´. Signed by the poet at the conclusion. Neatly laid down to a contemporary card, eviently originally part of a page from an album, and with some very light wrinkling. About VG Provenance: The present poem was removed from the album amicorum of the Marquise de Saint-Paul (1848-1943) French benefactress, pianist and salonniere.
