KERMODE FRANK: (1919-2010) British literary critic, best known for his work The Sense of an Ending: Studies in the Theory of Fiction (1967). T.L.S., Frank Kermode, one page, 4to, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 10th June 1978, to Stephen Brook, on the printed stationery of the Department of English at Harvard University. Kermode states ´I have told Harvard University Press that I should prefer, if possible, to publish the English version of the lectures with you, since I am anxious to discharge my obligation to Routledge´ and continues to add that he is sending a copy of the letter to Michael Sissons at A. D. Peters ´and I should be glad if you could inform him of the progress of the negotiation. He would, I´m sure, be glad to help with any questions or difficulties´, and concluding by remarking ´The lectures will go as a book to Harvard U.P. at the end of this month, and I daresay a copy could reach you quite soon after that, if you wished it´. With an ink annotation in another hand at the foot of the page regarding payment being made as an internal credit when a new contract has been worked out. Some light creasing and minor age toning to the edges, G Stephen Brook (1947- ) English author and wine journalist, a former editor of The Atlantic Monthly Magazine and publisher at Routledge, Kegan & Paul from 1976-80. Kermode´s letter relates to the publication of The Genesis of Secreecy: on the interpretation of narrative (1979).
