BURNAND F. C.: (1836-1917)

Burnand, three pages, 8vo, London, 17th June 1888, to Mills. Burnand states that he can not manage an engagement on Thursday 12th ´as I am bound to Irving for a dinner, but date was uncertain & tonight he said he had fixed the 12th (as I understood him), but unless the Lyceum is closed on that evening I think he must have made a mistake in the date & means Saturday´, and therefore asks not to be included, further writing ´I might suggest Greenwich to him & we could go down together´ and concluding by thanking his correspondent and remarking ´but I mustn´t leave you in an uncertainty´. Beneath his signature Burnand has added a charming original pen and ink drawing of a steam-powered ferry heading towards Greenwich with several passengers on board. About EX Henry Irving (1838-1905) English stage actor, closely associated with the Lyceum Theatre, and the first actor to be awarded a knighthood (1895).
