Lightly laid down to a 4to page immediately beneath a fragment of a similar size (also neatly laid down) bearing two lines of holograph text by Scott, possibly excised from the same letter, in part, ‘gentleman of good moral conduct and who possesses the manners…..’ The verso of the sheet is annotated and signed by the bookseller William Brown of Edinburgh and also bears his company’s oval stamp. Together with a contemporary silhouette of Scott on a small card. G, 2
