COLETTE: (1873-1954) French author, best known for her novella Gigi (1944). A.L.S., Colette, two pages, 4to, n.p., n.d. (1936), to Leopold Marchand ( ´Mon petit Leo´), in French. Colette seeks forgiveness from her correspondent for having left on Monday and not stayed for his dress rehearsal, remarking ´Mais je viens deja de rogner de vendredi a lundi trois jours complets sur mes pauvres vacances et Miche me disait que la piece pouvait encore etre retardee´ (Translation: ´But I have already cut three full days off my poor holiday from Friday to Monday, and Miche was telling me that the play could still be delayed´) and further adding ´J´attendrai avec bien de l´impatience, la-bas, les nouvelles de "La vie est si courte.´ (Translation: ´I'll be waiting impatiently over there for news of "Life is so short´). Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG Leopold Marchand (1891-1952) French playwright and screenwriter, husband of Colette's close friend Misz Hertz (who committed suicide in 1942). La vie est si courte is a comedy play in three acts that was first performed at the Pigalle Theatre in Paris in April 1936.
