Description

ANCELOT Virginie, née Chardon (1792-1875). Autograph letter signed to a "dear Monsieur". S. l., September 12, 1862; 2 p. in-12°, VA dry-stamp. Having a treaty with A. Cudot, publisher of his works, it is "therefore to him that the commission or rather the Société des gens de lettres will be indebted in the future". As this treaty only concerns what is printed, "the little short story you have in your hands and which you have promised to publish in the Bulletin is not included". From 1827 to his death, Stendhal frequented the Ancelot salon for the amusing company it provided.
