Carpeaux" on the left shoulder Bears the stamp "PROPRIÉTÉ CARPEAUX" and the imperial eagle stamp on the reverse. The laughing Neapolitan girl n° 2, bronze sculpture with brown patina by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, created circa 1864 HEIGHT. 26 CM - H. 10,2 IN. Related literature Michel Poletti, Alain Richarme, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, sculpteur. Catalog raisonné de l'œuvre édité, Paris, Les Expressions contemporaines,2003, model listed under no. BU 48, p. 150. This is the portrait of Anna Foucart, eldest daughter of Jean-Baptiste Foucart, a close friend of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux. The sculptor painted the young girl in 1860 and reused the model several times, adapting it for Rieuse napolitaine in 1863 and Rieuse aux roses in 1872. Here, the emphasis is on traditional Neapolitan costume, as a counterpart to the bust of Le Rieur napolitain, one of the Valenciennes sculptor's greatest successes.
