Prussian artilleryman's model 1895 spiked helmet, black patent leather bomb (cracks and dents) marked 56 and manufacturer's stamp, ball on round base with four rivets, eagle plate with reservists' iron cross, visor edged with brass snap ring (unstitched, owner's name written in pencil inside), neckband dated 1916 and marked GB 110 (unstitched), leather chinstrap, roundels missing, wear and tear, headgear worn, Germany WWI era.

Prussia, 2nd Empire Wars (1852-1870). Model 1842/60 grenadier de ligne troop helmet with tip, modified in 1860 and approved "I.K. 164" (Hannoversches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 164). Model 1842 conical-shaped leather bomb in 2 sewn parts, shortened at the bottom (modification 186), with its brass reinforcement ring with two rivets, rounded neck cover in 2 sewn parts, rounded visor edged with a brass ring, the seam on the bomb reinforced with iron rivet (modification 1867). Removable model 1842 pearl-base tip (height 115 mm) on a cross-stamped base attached to the bomb with 4 brass half-spherical-head screws and bridge nuts, the front lug unmodified (overlap with the plate). Model 1842/60 screw-on front plate with Prussian eagle known as the "old regiment", monogrammed "FWR" for Frederick Wilhelm Rex, and banner bearing the motto "MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND", attached to the plate with 5 welded rivets (modified in 1860). It is attached to the bomb with 2 square brass screws and nuts (the bomb is re-drilled). Flat-scaled chinstraps, model 1856, fastened with slotted-head steel nuts and screws (the old chinstrap fastening holes have not been economically plugged and are hidden by the side reinforcements which, due to the bomb's shortening, are sewn higher up and invisible from the outside). Prussian model 1857 metal land-kocarde (diam. 75mm) on the right side. Leather inner cap with 6 wolf's teeth (tired and small accidents). The bottom of the bomb is inscribed with the reception mark ""I.K. 164" for Infanterie Königliche N°164. Worn. (Wear and tear, removable tip screw missing, leather strap buckle on right chinstrap missing, good helmet model 1842 having undergone the various regulatory modifications, typical of fighting in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71). Additional description on 30/06/2024. Spiked helmet, model 1842/60, city or provincial or Swedish reuse. Presence of several plate mounting holes on the bomb, formerly filled in, including 2 vertical ones that could correspond to the mounting of Swedish model 1842 helmet plates. The visor, normally rectangular in shape, is rounded here, and attached with metal rivets. (When in doubt...)
