‡ A RONDEL DAGGER, LATE 14TH/EARLY 15TH CENTURY, PROBABLY FLEMISH in excavated condition, with long slender blade of slightly hollow-diamond section, struck with a mark on one face at the forte, iron hilt comprising a thick disc guard (one plate loose) and matching pommel, and in black patinated condition throughout, 48.0 cm overall Provenance Howard M. Curtis (no. 425), sold Christie’s London 31st October 1984, lot 118. A dagger of this form is shown on the memorial brass of Ystase de Seron (d. circa 1382), Chapel of Ease, Seron, Belgium. See Laking 1920, vol. III, p. 16, fig. 763.
