[TOKYO TRIAL]: An extremely rare original contemporary copy of the Judgment of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East issued at the conclusion of the Tokyo Trial (´The United States of America, The Republic of China, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, The Commonwealth of Australia, Canada, The Republic of France, The Kingdom of the Netherlands, New Zealand, India, and the Commonwealth of the Philippines against Araki, Sadao; Dohihara, Kenji; Hashimoto, Kingoro; Hata, Shunroko; Hiranuma, Kiichiro; Hirota, Koki; Hoshino, Naoki; Itagaki, Seishiro; Kaya, Okinori; Kido, Koichi; Kimura, Hoitaro; Koiso, Kuniaki; Matsui, Iwane; Matsuoka, Yosuke; Minami, Jiro; Muto, Akira; Magano, Osami; Oka, Takasumi; Okawa, Shumei; Oshida, Hiroshi; Sato, Kenryo; Shigemitsu, Mamoru; Shimada, Shigetaro; Shiratori, Toshio; Suzuki, Teiichi; Togo, Shigetaro; Tojo, Hideki; Umezu, Yoshijiro´) dated 1st November 1948 and privately bound into four large volumes. The extensive folio mimeographed document (printed to the rectos only and consisting of over 1200 pages) arranged in various sections including the Establishment and Proceedings of the Tribunal, The Law, the Obligations Assured and Rights Acquired by Japan, The Military Domination of Japan and Preparation for War, the Japanese Agression against China, and aggression against the USSR, The Pacific War, Conventional War Crimes (Atrocities), Findings on Counts of the Indictment, and the Verdicts, and further including various annexes related to The Potsdam Declaration, the Final Japanese Acceptance, the Instrument of Surrender and Indictment etc. Handsomely quarter bound in dark blue leather and cloth with gilt stamped title (in German) and owner´s name to each cover. A highly important historical and contemporary document from one of the most significant Post-World War II war crimes trials. Some light age wear and some minor dust and water staining in places, generally about VG Provenance: From the personal library and archive of Günter Peis (1927-2012) Austrian journalist and historian, a pioneer of investigative journalism. At nineteen years of age Peis was the youngest journalist present at the Nuremberg Trials and observed the execution of the major war criminals sentenced to death from a roof hatch on the night of 16th October 1946, thereby becoming the first to report the execution of Joachim von Ribbentrop, Wilhelm Keitel and eight other convicts which was carried out in the greatest secrecy.
