FALLA MANUEL DE: (1876-1946) Spanish composer.

FALLA MANUEL DE: (1876-1946) Spanish composer. A.L.S., Manuel de Falla, to the recto and verso of his personal printed oblong 12mo Visiting Card, featuring his printed name to the centre and address at Rue de Belley at the base (struck through in ink), Madrid, n.d. (1914), to a Maestro (possibly Claude Debussy), in Spanish. Falla sends his New Year greetings, 'Reciba usted, quierdo Maestro, mi saludo mas afectuoso con mis votos muy sinceros para el ano que empieza, en el que seguramente veremos la victoria definitiva de Francia que deseo de todo corazon' (Translation: 'Please accept, my dear Maestro, my warmest greetings and my most sincere wishes for the coming year, in which we will surely see the definitive victory of France, which I wish for with all my heart') and in a postscript makes a reference to one of his main works, 'La vida breve se representa ahora en Madrid. Estoy muy satisfecho del resultado' (Translation: 'La vida breve is now being performed in Madrid. I am very satisfied with the result'). VG La vida breve ('Life is Short') is an opera in two acts and four scenes by Manuel de Falla, composed between August 1904 and March 1905. The work did not premiere until 1st April 1913 when it was staged at the Casino Municipal in Nice. French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918) played a major role in influencing Falla to transform it from the number opera it was at the Nice premiere to an opera with a more continuous musical texture and more mature orchestration.
