KARSAVINA TAMARA: (1885-1978) Russian prima Ballerina. Karsavina was the first ballerina of the Imperial Russian Ballet and later of the Ballets Russes under Sergei Diaghilev. She was renowned for her beauty. After settling in Britain she began teaching ballet, becoming one of the founders of modern British ballet. She assisted in the establishment of The Royal Ballet and was a founder member of the Royal Academy of Dance. Signed 3.5 x 5.5 photograph by Karsavina, the image depicting the Russian ballerina in a full length ballet dancing pose. Signed in blue ink with her name alone.
