PUCCINI GIACOMO: (1858-1924)

PUCCINI GIACOMO: (1858-1924) Italian composer. A printed folio copy of the sheet music to Puccini´s song E l´uccellino, identified as a ´ninna-nanna´ (lullaby) by the composer, with lyrics by Renato Fucini, dedicated to Memmo Lippi, published by G. Ricordi & C., Milan, 1899 and featuring an attractive art nouveau cover incorporating an image of a mother holding their young child in their arms. Signed and inscribed by Puccini to the head of the front cover and dated at Torre del Lago, 14th September 1919, in his hand. Some light age toning and wear, only very slightly affecting the signature and inscription, and with some small, minor tears to the edges, G E l´uccellino (´And the little bird´ ) was composed by Puccini whilst at the height of his fame in 1899, three years after La boheme . The charming salon song was dedicated to the young boy Memmo Lippi, son of Puccini´s friend Guglielmo Lippi, who had died at a young age. In the song the bird on the branch is singing to a baby, and asks the baby to rest its head on its mother´s heart, but adds ´If you want to know how much I love you, no one in the world can tell you!´
