GOUNOD CHARLES: (1818-1893) French composer. An excellent set of two documents, containing an Autograph Musical Quote and and Autograph Letter Signed by Gounod. A good A.M.Q., one page, oblong 4to, score sheet, bearing thirteen staves cleanly penned by Gounod in pencil. The musical quotation includes the full lyrics beneath each line, in Gounod´s hand, in French, stating in part ` Vois! Le soleil a fini sa carriere. Il a fait place à l´astre de la nuit! Paisiblement court l´eau de la rivière semblable. hélas! au bonheur qui s´enfuit ...´ (Translation: " See! The sun has finished its way. It has made way for the star of the night! Peacefully runs the water of the river. Alas! to the happiness that flees...") Together with A.L.S., ` Ch. Gounod´, two pages, 12mo, St. Cloud, Monday 18th June 1877, in French. Gounod refers to his birthday the day before, stating in part ` Cher ami, J´ai eu hier 59 ans, je viens vous demander les étrennes de ma 60° année. Voici une note que mon amitié pour Cécile Rhoné recommande à votre amitié pour elle et pour moi…´ (Translation: " Dear friend, I turned 59 yesterday, I have come to ask you for my 60th birthday.
