WILLARD JESS: (1881-1968) American boxer, World Heavyweight Champion 1915-19. Vintage fountain pen ink signature ( ´Jess Willard´) on a small oblong 8vo sheet of paper, adding the words ´Champ from April 6th 1915 to July 4th 1919´ in his hand beneath his signature and also providing his address at Blanchard Drive, Glendale, California at the head of the page. Neatly laid down to a slightly larger page evidently removed from an album or scrapbook, and with some light wrinkling. About VG

A war hero and illustrator of "Le Soir", Horn was overwhelmed by the exploits of the charismatic Gaston Reiff, because his Olympic feat brought Belgium back to life. And our artist is so moved and inspired, that he gives his "champion" this circus scene, with Gaston Reiff transformed into a juggler between the Belgian lion and the American eagle... Between the balloons, the Olympic rings and the planet, Gaston juggles happily, having fun and regaling us...". The caption reads: "To Gaston Reiff, Belgian champion and record holder, American champion, Olympic champion and world record holder, with all the sympathy and admiration of Horn...".
