Two ancestor figures, West Africa, probably early 20th century. Fully sculpted Baule ancestor figures carved from solid wood. Both standing on a plinth, their hands resting on their stomachs on the right and left. The man with a braided beard, a helmet-like hairstyle and tattoos with geometric patterns on his body. The woman also with body ornaments and a piled-up hairstyle. Impressive pair in beautiful carving. Height approx. 35 cm and 47 cm. with signs of age and patina partly rubbed off. The male figure with cracks and traces of glue on the sides and back.
