A large illuminated genealogical scroll (silsilname), in two parts, Algiers, dated 1113AH / AD1701 and 1277 AH/ AD 1860. Handwritten scroll on beige paper, in Arabic, calligraphed in fine Maghribi in brown ink, some words chrysographed, surmounted by a beautiful illuminated polychrome unwan (pediment) decorated with flowery arabesques, followed by a blessing in a cartouche with a blue background, framed by fine borders with a red and gold background, and a wide border of flowery scrolls on an intense blue background. The certificate is divided into two parts: the first is dated early Safar 1113 (1701), attested by Ibrahim, qadi of Algiers, and by Muhammad b. Muhammad al-Sharif al-Zahhar. The second, probably an extension of the first, is attested by the Hanafi judge of Algiers, Ahmad b. Mustafa, on Safar 29, 1277 (September 16, 1860). In the upper left-hand corner is the seal of Ibrahim, qadi of Algiers, and in the upper right-hand corner, the seal of Muhammad b. Muhammad al-Sharif al-Zahhar, who may have been the chief of the Algiers sayyids. The document was drawn up during the regency of Hadj Moustapha, 7th Dey of Algiers (1700-1705).
