Description

SAND (Aurore Dudevant, known as George). Autograph letter signed "G Sand" to André and Élisa Boutet. Nohant [Indre department], March 17 [1868, according to postmark]. One p. in-8, envelope preserved. "Dear friends, mother and child are well. Little Gabrielle has come to term, she is superb. Lina is doing as well as can be expected. She's proud to have done without us. Aurore is strong and thriving. She adores her little sister. We're happy and content, and we send you our warmest love..." AURORE AND GABRIELLE DUDEVANT-SAND. At the end of her life, George Sand was left with only two grandchildren, Gabrielle dite "Titite" (1868-1909) and Aurore dite "Lolo" (1866-1961), whom her son Maurice had had with Lina Calamatta. They were the sole preoccupation of her last years: taking particular care with their upbringing, it was for them that she wrote her Contes d'une grand-mère (1873-1876), a series of edifying children's stories. André and Elisa Boutet were friends who lived near the house George Sand had bought in Palaiseau.
