Description

PRÉVERT (Jacques). Autograph manuscript WITH ORIGINAL COLOR DRAWING. One large folio p. (42 x 27 cm on vellum), text and drawing in black and colored felt-tip pens and oil pastels, a few notes in pen and black ink. Ephemeris for a "Thursday", in which various names can be read: Brunet, Lasky, Bauer, etc. It is illustrated with a large multicolored flower (37 x 15 cm). JACQUES PREVERT'S FLOWERY EPHEMERIDES. From the 1950s onwards, Prévert got into the habit of composing his own ephemerides as diaries, on large, carefully selected sheets of paper: "Every morning, he would use a large white sheet of wonderful holland from Lavrut, Passage Choiseul, on which he would draw a colorful flower, next to which he would write his appointments and the first names or surnames of friends whose visits he was expecting" (Yves Courrière, Jacques Prévert. En vérité, Folio, 2000, p. 932). The inventiveness and dynamic aesthetic qualities revealed by these flower designs illustrate once again Picasso's comment to Prévert: "You can't paint or draw, but you're a painter".
