Description

RENOIR (Auguste). Autograph letter signed "Renoir" [to his wife Aline Charigot]. [Paris], "Monday, December 1st" [1902]. One p. in-8. "My dear friend, I'm keeping Jean [his son, the future filmmaker] all week on the doctor's advice.... Nothing serious if he stays at home, but at [the institution] Ste-Croix it could have become serious. I think I told you to do what you want with the servants, it would even be better to keep them again this winter (IN PARIS, I WOULD NEED GABRIELLE), so we need someone. As for the horse, I'll have to leave it in Essoyes [his wife's home town in Champagne]. It will be cheaper to rent a car by the month if I need it. Baptistin will find it for me. I send my love to Claude [the painter's other son] and you..." Aline Charigot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir's wife, was also his model, as was Gabrielle Renard, their indispensable maid. ATTACHED: GUITRY (Sacha). 3 autograph poetic manuscripts. Variations on the same poem dedicated to "the hair of our mistresses" (7 to 9 verses, each on one oblong folio page).
