Description

MONET (Claude). Autograph letter signed to Gustave Geffroy. Giverny, July 5, 1899. 2 pp. in-8, letterhead printed at his address, mourning border, envelope retained. "My dear friend, it is with all my heart that I send you these three hundred francs, happy to participate in your good deed, and since I know you are in Paris, I repeat my request that you come and spend a day in Giverny. You'll find me hard at work. It didn't happen on its own, as I hadn't worked for 18 months, I wasn't there at all, and I HAD TO HAVE A LOT OF WILL TO CONTINUE, because I WAS ONLY MAKING PORK. Anyway, I'm not giving up and I'm starting to get the hang of it... It's been a long time since we've seen each other, so please come without delay, you'll give us great pleasure. Yours in friendship..."
