Antiporta, vignette on title page printed in red and black, 2 engraved and folded maps including 1 by Sanson, 16 engraved plates including many double-page or folded, numerous engraved figures in the text (4 plates missing, small tears, flourishes, other minor defects.) Coeval bindings in gilt-stamped gilt on spine, decorated lips (small defects). Also in the lot are two copies of the second volume in the first edition of the spectacular and profusely illustrated workBeschryving van oud en niewRome by the French booksellerFrançois-Jacques Deseine in Halma's Amsterdam edition of 1704 with frontispieces printed in red and black, 2 frontispieces and 25 engraved plates of which 1 is folded and most are double-page within coeval dark brown leather binding with double frames and fleurons on the plates and gold title on gusset on the spine (restored back), while the other copy also has 2 printed frontispieces in red and black, two frontispieces and 9 plates partly double-page.The plates depict monuments of Rome, tombs, temples, arches, obelisks, baths, naumachiae, views of modern Rome.
