Alaux, Jean. Fine album in oblong 4° containing 14 original drawings in pencil and white lead on paper mounted on cardboard. These are the sketches used for the famous decorative cycle of the historical gallery of the Château de Versailles commissioned by Louis Philippe, for whom Jean Alaux was a favorite painter. A colleague of Horace Vernet's in Vincent's atelier and a friend of Eugene Delacroix, whom he met while working for Gérin, Alaux was retired to the Villa Medici in 1815 and then became its director in 1846.
