[Illuminated manuscripts]. Rare bibliographical work, that of Les livres d'heures manuscrits de la Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris of 1927 edited by Abbé Leroquais with 2 text volumes, one Supplement plus a folder containing plates. The two text volumes contain descriptions of 313 manuscripts, the Supplement includes recent works acquired up to 1927, and works from the Smith-Lesouëf donation with reproductions of 40 plates, while the fourth volume consists of an album containing 130 plates reproduced in heliotype. All within green hardback binding with double title on the spine. Also in the lot are Illumintaed manuscripts in the British Museum - Miniatures, Borders, and Initials reproduced in gold and colors by George F. Warner in the 1901 London edition in 4 volumes, Catalogo Exposicion de codices miniados espanoles by J. Domìnguez Bordona in 1929, Manuscrits francais à peintures des bibliothèques d'Allemagne by Leonardo Olschki in 1932, andLa Miniature francaise aux XV et XVI siècles by André Blum and Philippe Lauer in 1930. The meticulously handcrafted manuscript wonderfully evokes the book art of the 15th century and, in addition to the magnificent calligraphy, is decorated with numerous artistic initials, including a noble opening initial, rich scrollwork and exquisite depictions of animals and mythical creatures. The text contains the 96th Psalm (Cantate Domino) in French. The author of the work, which is entirely in pen, watercolor and gold paint, appears to be revealed on the dedication page, which reads in French: "Gift to Pastor Deroppet from a grateful grandmother for the religious education her granddaughter Antoinette Rognon was allowed to enjoy. Colombes, April 1884, G. Verboom". - The strong Vélin paper partly with various blindstamps: "De La Rue & Co. London Board" and "L. Berville, 25 rue de la Chaussée d'Antin". - Minimally browned in the margins and partly with minor soiling. One name on dedication leaf somewhat rubbed.
