Two beautiful etched maps, the first a Tusciae antiquae typus by Ortelius dated in plate 1584 and with beautiful coloring, the other a maritime Part Two of the Patrimony of St. Peter depicting the coast between Civitavecchia and Porto Ercole, both in beautiful - though ruined - antique frames.

Interior in fair condition (one quire unbound, title pages damaged but not missing, various minor paper defects). A decent copy nonetheless. First edition, illustrated with a frontispiece, 7 maps (4 of them double) and 101 engraved plates (38 of them double). Complete. A renowned book, here in average condition, but complete.

Walter on the lid, printed by Engelmann: rich architectural and floral decoration with cartouches; the central title is flanked by two women, one representing Industry, the other Commerce; in each corner is a figurative representation of four rivers (Seine, Thames, Neva, Danube), each corresponding to a vignette next to it showing a city view (Paris, London, St. Petersburg, Vienna). The box contains eight cards, lithographed and colored, glued to wood and cut into jigsaw puzzles. Geographical puzzle game. The eight maps represent Asia, Europe, France, South America, North America, Africa, Oceania and the world map in two hemispheres. These maps are taken from the Gosselin-Delamarche atlas. The set is in fine condition; a small piece is missing from the map of France.
