The text takes the form of a dialogue between Count Amedeo di Castellamonte, architect and first engineer to the Dukes of Savoy, and Bernini. A very rare first edition of this magnificent work, one of the finest works of Italian Baroque and hunting literature, and one of Piedmont's most valuable and sought-after books. The Royal Palace of Venaria (Italian: Reggia di Venaria Reale) is a former royal residence located in Venaria Reale, near Turin in Piedmont, northern Italy. It was one of the residences of the Savoy royal family. It is one of the largest royal residences in the world, comparable in size and structure to Versailles and Caserta. The Palace was designed and built from 1675 by the architect Amedeo di Castellamonte, at the request of Duke Charles-Emmanuel II, who wanted a pied-à-terre for his hunting parties in the mountains north of Turin. The name of the palace comes from the Latin, Venatio Regia, meaning Royal Hunt. One damaged double plate cut in two (view of the square). Large folding plans torn and detached with cuts at folds. Rousseurs. A few tears but not missing. Very rare to find complete as here. A copy in need of general restoration.
