Typographical mark to title page and at end of volume (delicate restoration to title page, lightly browned). Modern vellum binding with gold title on spine gusset, within slipcase. Second edition ofMarliani's celebrated work on the topography of ancient Rome. Compared to the princeps of the same year it turns out to be particularly rare and more sought-after. The Lyons edition does not constitute a reprint but is a careful revision with improvements and corrections by the humanist Rabelais, who was Du Bellay's guest in Romadfrom January to April1534.
