Provenance label to title page. First edition of one of the masterpieces of twentieth-century literature. Edition now rare because the publisher sold the stock to the Florentine Nuova Italia. The latter was hit by the 1966 flood and of the 2,500 copies printed no more than a thousand are thought to have survived according to Gambetti-Vezzosi 446.
