He won an award as an artist for his sculpture "American Trotter", featuring a jockey and his horse, an animal to which he was deeply attached. He continued to create sculptures of them, highlighting the dynamism and wild power of these beasts throughout British-American history. Owner of a large hunting ground, he was the author of a dozen books on the subject.
