Ulpiano CHECA Y SANZ (1860-1916) Fantasia Watercolor and gouache on paper Signed lower left 70 x 88.5 cm Framed (Mottling, tears) Condition report available on request: [email protected] Expert : Brame Lorenceau NOTICE A painter of Spanish origin, he began his artistic training in 1873 at the Fine Arts School in San Fernando, where he was a pupil of Manuel Dominguez, Federico de Madrazo, Alejandro Ferrant and Pablo y Gonzalvo Peres. From 1884 onwards, he studied in Rome, winning a first-class medal at the National Fine Arts Exhibition in Madrid and a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Vienna in 1888, his work being acquired by the Prado Museum. He specialized in representations of horses and orientalist subjects, our work being a condensation of these two interests. He became Blanche Odin's teacher from 1895, and made many trips to Argentina.
