José CRUZ HERRERA (1890-1972) Portrait of a woman against a blue background Oil on panel Signed lower right 36 x 28.5 cm Framed (Wear, scratches) Condition report available on request: [email protected] NOTICE A Spanish Orientalist artist of the 20th century, fascinated by the great masters of his country, he began his career as a pupil of Juan Aciego before leaving to study at the Beaux-Arts in Madrid, then traveling to Rome and Paris. From 1929, he settled almost permanently in Morocco, while continuing to exhibit at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. José Cruz Herrera remains an emblematic figure of Spanish art and an artistic bridge between Europe and North Africa. His work has been exhibited at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris.
